Dear God,
I leave for Gatwick Airport in 20 minutes. My little hand carry and backpack are both full to capacity, and I can’t hide the swelling pride that’s in my heart for going on a five-week trip with so little. It is liberating to travel light. If this experiment works, it might become THE way I travel from now on.
Tonight there are a few thoughts on my mind.
You gave me the trip of a lifetime.
I have real fears about the next few weeks.
The malaria medicine feels better today than it did yesterday. I am thankful for these small miracles that remind me that you know and care.
I can’t wait for warm weather.
I wonder what Air Namibia will be like.
I am nervous and excited and nervous and excited and nervous and excited.

Deep breath! It will be great, even more than great! Too bad you’re coming only now or I’d find a way to come visit you in Cape Town but I only have 1.5 weeks left in Johannesburg myself and no time off. The African Continent is wonderful and each country is so unique, it’s great you’ll have a chance to experience a few! And the God who has been faithful throughout your life and especially these recent travels will keep you safely on this continent too!
